Description:

The Getsinger Family Papers consist of correspondence and other records pertaining to the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Primitive Baptist Church, and the family's finances. The collection covers the time period of 1828 to 1972. John Conrad Getsinger, Sr., a native of Germany, resided in Martin County. The letter below (May 17, 1858) translated into the English language from the German, is from Christoph Goetzinger to his brother. The letter sheds light on the culture of that time. The letter discusses the family's transitions in Germany since John Conrad Getsinger's departure for America.
