Create research alerts

Setting up automatic email alerts is one of the best ways to stay informed of current research and publishing trends. Many databases and publishers have an alert feature that automatically emails the table of contents from journals you select, often before they are published in print. Alerts can also be set up for specific keyword searches so that whenever new articles with predetermined keywords appear, you can be notified automatically. Nearly all databases require registration with a username and password. Other instructions vary slightly.

  • Academic Search Premier: Create an account and sign in by clicking the white "Sign In to My EBSCOhost" in the upper right corner. Once you've signed in, click the "Publications" tab on the green toolbar. Search for a publication you are interested in and click it. On the right of the journal's page is a link to "Journal Alert".

  • BioMed Central: Once you have registered from the Direct Link page, simply select and add the journals from the drop down list that you are interested in. You will receive the Table of Contents from the most recent issues in the body of the email alert.

  • Business Search Premier: Create an account and sign in by clicking the blue "Sign In" in the upper right corner. Once you've signed in, click the "Publications" radio button below the search box. Search for a publication you are interested in and click it. On the right of the journal's page is a link to "Journal Alert".

  • Cambridge Journals Online: Once you have registered from the linked page, select the "My content alerts" from the box on the left of the page. Browse the subjects and journal titles, clicking the box of the ones you wish to receive alerts from. You can also save searches from the Advanced Search screen.

  • Emerald Alert: Follow the "click here to register" link and fill out the required fields. Choose to set up Saved Search Alerts, TOC (Table of Contents) Alerts or Weekly Digests.

  • IEEE Alerting: Enter your name and email. Once entered you can set up RSS feeds or email TOC alerts for IEEE journals and magazines

  • Science Direct Alerts: Select the blue "Not Registered?" link near the top of the page and fill out the form. Click the "Alerts" tab near the top of the page.

  • Springer Journals: Click the blue "Register" link on the left of the page. Enter the required information. Once registered you can choose either Table Of Contents Alerting or Keyword Alert for Springer journals.
