Reserve a book so I can get it next

Recalls and holds may be placed on items in order to be next in line to check them out. To have an item reserved, contact the Joyner Library Circulation Desk in person or by telephone at (252) 328-6518. You may also select the links to "Place a Hold" or "Recall Request" directly from the online catalog.

  • ECU students, faculty and staff may have items recalled from any library user after they have been checked out for 28 days. Items can also be recalled to be placed in the Reserve Reading area at Joyner Library for use by a specific class.

  • Area residents may not recall items, but they may place a hold on the item. This allows the Circulation Department to hold it for them when the item is returned.

  • As soon as a recalled or held item becomes available, the person making the request will be notified that he/she can pick it up within seven days. After seven days, the item will be shelved.

  • Any item that has been placed on recall or hold may not be renewed.

  • If a library user receives notification that another person has requested an item they have checked out, it must be returned promptly. Failure to do so may result in the loss of borrowing privileges and ECU student records will be tagged.

For additional information, see the Joyner Library Circulation Policy.
