Use netLibrary
What is netLibrary?netLibrary is a collection of books from various publishers that are available in electronic format. netLibrary houses a core collection of approximately 3,400 literary classics that are accessible to any member. As an ECU student, you receive special access to an additional collection of nearly 50,000 reference, scholarly and professional books.
How can I access netLibrary's collection?netLibrary books from both the main and ECU collection are catalogued and accessible from the Joyner Library catalog the same way other books are. You can search for eBooks by title, author, subject or keyword. An entry for an eBook in the catalog will have "[electronic resource]" or "[computer file]" after the title, and a direct link to netLibrary in the web address field. Use the "Limit Search" feature if you want to see only the eBooks found in your search. You can also search the netLibrary website directly at www.netlibrary.com .
Do I have to create an account to use netLibrary? You do not need an account to access netLibrary's collections of eBooks, or to view an eBook from on or off-campus. You will need an account to download a PDF of certain eBooks.
Is it hard to create a netLibrary account? Is it free?Creating a netLibrary account is not hard at all, and it's completely free.
Connect to netLibrary via the library's proxy server at www.ecu.edu/lib/netlibrary Choose the "Create a Free Account" link located at the top and bottom of the netLibrary homepage. Read the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use agreement at the bottom of the screen first. Then, complete the online form, and click on the "Create Account" button. Choose a unique username and password that you can remember, since you will need it every time you log into your account. We recommend using your ECU exchange username/password, but it's not required.
Distance Education students may ask the Reference Department to set up a netLibrary account for them. Contact the Reference Department by calling 252-328-6677, or online at Ask-a-Librarian. Tell us that you're an off-campus student who needs to set up a netLibrary account, and we will enter the information for you.
Is this site compatible with all browsers? No. In order to view this site, you need Internet Explorer 5.5 and above, or Netscape 6.2 and above.
Can I print or copy pages from an eBook? You can print or copy one page at a time from an eBook. There are two methods of printing: 1) Click the printer icon above the page you wish to print. 2) Right click on the page you wish to print, and choose the "Print this page" option. Printing an entire eBook violates copyright laws; netLibrary monitors the printing patterns of their users, and will send them a warning if they are deemed to be "excessive printers".
Can more than one person view an eBook at the same time? No.
What if I try to view an eBook that's being viewed by another patron? When an eBook is being viewed, the system displays a message indicating that all copies are in use, and that you should try again later.
