Support the Library
Joyner Library has grown from a small, one room facility to the largest research library in eastern North Carolina, thanks to on-going state support as well as the generosity of donors. The breadth and depth of our collections, technology, and services give our students and faculty a competitive advantage in education, scholarship, and research, and as the intellectual heart of ECU, we are central to the transformative experiences that prepare ECU students to be successful in a global community.
We are committed to providing life-long learning and cultural experiences for all of our patrons. As we face state funding challenges, your private giving is more vital now than ever before. Please consider giving generously to one of the Library's funds or endowments and encourage others to give as well.
Dean's Fund for Excellence
This fund gives the Dean of Academic Library and Learning Resources the ability to enhance the library with inspiring learning spaces, to celebrate student and faculty success, and to share collections with the community through exhibits and special events. Gifts to this fund have contributed to the purchase of technology, art, public programs, and awards to honor research and scholarship. You may designate your gift to the Dean's Fund for Excellence with a focused intent or as an unrestricted gift to be used for the Dean's priorities.
Joyner Library's spaces, such as the Collaborative Learning Center, Music Library, and Teaching Resources Center are places where patrons seek intellectual pursuits. All who visit will find advanced technology, ergonomic furniture, and inspirational places enhanced by engaging art. Your gift will help enhance library reading rooms, technology zones, study rooms, and research alcoves. Space naming opportunities include:
Joyner Library collections includes more than 1.9 million print volumes, 1.8 million individual items on microfilm, microfiche, ultrafiche, microprint, and microcard, and 61,000 serial subscriptions.

The Teaching Resources Center contains children and young adult materials, K-12 North Carolina state adopted textbooks, mixed media materials, and reference resources.
Joyner Library's Special Collections provide access to rich primary source materials. The Manuscripts and Rare Books Collection include letters, diaries, maps, photographs, films, and oral histories. In the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection one can find in-depth materials about our state found nowhere else, including The Snow L. and B.W.C. Roberts Collection, a fiction collection set in North Carolina. Other special collections include University Archives, navel and military history, the Hoover Collection on International Communism, the James H. and Virginia Schlobin Literature of the Fantastic Collection, and the Stuart Wright Southern Literature Collection.
Your gift to collections will enhance existing library collections and fund the acquisition and processing of new and exciting collections.
Preservation & Conservation
This fund provides equipment, tools, and materials to ensure that collections are available for future generations. Joyner Library has an outstanding conservation laboratory where technicians conserve books, documents, works of art on paper, and photographs for long term access. We have also been leaders in digitizing our one-of-a-kind collections, providing wider access and on-going preservation.
Your gift to preservation and conservation will be a legacy of literature, scholarship, and knowledge for East Carolina University students and faculty, visiting scholars, and the people of eastern North Carolina.
