Fund Listing and OverviewDean's Fund for ExcellenceThis unrestricted fund, established in 2004, gives the Dean of Academic Library and Learning Resources the ability to enhance the library with inspiring learning spaces, to celebrate student and faculty success, and to share our achievements and collections with the community. Gifts to this fund have contributed to the purchase of new technology, works of art, special events to honor faculty authors, and awards for student research papers. George C. Smith Library Enrichment FundEstablished in November 1986 in the memory of George C. Smith by his wife Rebecca McCulloch Smith and son John Randolph Smith, this fund is available to the Dean of Academic Library and Learning Resources to meet needs not provided for by State appropriations. Library Development FundEstablished in 1998, this fund provides support for the Joyner Library fundraising program. Collaborative Learning Center FundThe Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) located on the first floor of Joyner Library is a student centered space for education and creative scholarship. The CLC features innovative technology and ergonomic furniture designed for team projects. Lounge chairs and booths provide a comfortable environment for student productivity. The presentation practice room helps students improve their public speaking skills with equipment to project text and images in front of an audience. Students may film their presentation, play the recording there, or save the file to a portable computer drive to assess their communication and content later. Within the Collaborative Learning Center students can also find peer tutoring offered by Pirate Tutoring, writing advice in the Writing Center, and Ask-a-Librarian Service at the Reference Desk or via email, instant messaging, phone, or text. Preservation and Conservation FundThe preservation and conservation fund was established in 1998 to provide equipment, tools, and materials to ensure that library collections are available for the education and scholarship of present and future generations of the Pirate Nation. Joyner Library has an outstanding conservation laboratory where highly skilled technicians conserve books, documents, works of art on paper, and photographs. This fund can also be used for outsourcing more complex conservation projects to experts in the field. We seek to elevate this fund to an endowment to build a sustainable revenue source for the preservation of all library collections. You can leave a legacy of literature, scholarship, and knowledge for ECU students and faculty, and the people of eastern North Carolina, with the gift of preservation. Donald R. Lennon University Archives EndowmentThe University Archives collects, preserves, and makes available the official records of East Carolina University and the papers of ECU faculty and material reflecting student life throughout the university's history. The Donald R. Lennon University Archives Endowment is named in honor of the former Director of the East Carolina Manuscript Collection and Coordinator of Special Collections who played a key role in establishing the University Archives. This endowment improves access and preservation of University Archives collections. Friends of Joyner Library EndowmentThe Friends of Joyner Library was established to foster the role of Joyner Library as a university and global resource. The Friends of Joyner Library Endowment funds programs focused on raising awareness of the library's resources and support fundraising activities for collection development, facility upgrades, and special programs. Interest from the corpus is deposited into the Friends of Joyner Library operating budget. Friends of Joyner Library Patron's Wall EndowmentEstablished in the mid-1990s by the Friends of Joyner Library Board of Directors, the primary focus of this Patron's Wall is to recognize those who make a significant gift to the Friends. All individuals, families, clubs, and organizations with an interest in the library's collections, services, and programs are invited to participate in this exciting project by contributing at least $1,000 to the Friends Foundation Endowment Fund. Donors will be honored on the Patron's Wall with an attractive, permanent plaque mounted inside the entrance of Joyner Library. The space on the Patron's Wall is limited. Only the first 300 donors to give to this project will be included on this handsome monument. Verona Langford EndowmentThis endowment was established in October of 2000 by Verona Lee Joyner Langford and Fred Timms Langford for the purchase of books, publications, equipment, and furnishings which supplement education and research. Herrin EndowmentEstablished in June of 2000 by Virginia Herrin, this is a discretionary endowment to be used toward the purchase of research materials. Joyner Library Reference Department FundServing as a discretionary fund for the purchase of materials and other items, this fund was established in 1992 to assist the Joyner Library Reference Department. Marilyn Ramey Stephenson Memorial Reference Book FundEstablished in March of 1989, revenue from the corpus is used by Joyner Library to purchase reference books in memory of Mrs. Stephenson. Music Library FundThe Music Library, located in the A. J. Fletcher Music Center, is a gem in the Pirate Treasure Chest. It is the largest music library collection east of Raleigh and one of the best in the nation. In addition to serving the students and faculty in the ECU School of Music and School of Theater and Dane, the Music Library has grown into a haven for music lovers, musicians, and music educators from every county in eastern North Carolina. The collection includes recorded sound, videos, music scores, books, journals, microforms, and computer software on every musical style and genre from classical to rock to reggae. Conrad Sharpe Music Library EndowmentEstablished in 2010 by Conrad Sharpe, this endowment provides support for the Music Library. This may include, but is not limited to purchasing music library materials, equipment, and funding graduate assistantships for special music library projects. North Carolina Collection FundEstablished in 1998, this fund provides support for the purchase of display items in the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection that are not provided for by state funding. Minnie Marguerite Wiggins EndowmentEstablished in May of 2001 by Minnie Marguerite Wiggins, this endowment is to be used solely for purchasing books for the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection. Ronnie Barnes African-American Resource Center EndowmentEstablished in March 2002 by Ronnie Barnes to collect materials about the legacy and future of blacks in eastern North Carolina and the southeast, the main purchases include books and journals to be made available for students to learn about the African-American experience. Manuscript Endowment FundEstablished by Friends of the East Carolina Manuscript Collection in 1970, interest from corpus is deposited into the Special Manuscripts Fund. Special Manuscripts FundEstablished by the Friends of the East Carolina Manuscript Collection in 1970, these funds are used to support projects for the East Carolina Manuscript Collection. Professor Bodo Nischan Manuscript EndowmentEstablished in August 2002 by Mrs. Gerda Nischan in memory of her husband Professor Bodo Bischan, this endowment supports the purchase of materials for the Joyner Library Manuscript Collection in Special Collections. Sara Batten EndowmentEstablished in 1995 by Dr. James W. Batten for his wife Sarah, this endowment is designed to provide monetary support with primary emphasis on the acquisition and cataloging of historical documents and archival research materials in the East Carolina Manuscript Collection and the University Archives. Elizabeth Price Crockford Missionary & Church History EndowmentEstablished in 1989 by Dr. Charles L. Price and supported by gifts from Mr. Richard H. Crockford, Sr., Richard H. Crockford, Jr., and William M. Crockford, the Elizabeth Price Crockford Missionary & Church History Endowment Fund supports the acquisition and preservation of missionary and church history manuscript materials. Schlobin Collection of Literature of the Fantastic FundEstablished in 2004 by Visiting Professor Roger C. Schlobin in honor of his parents, James H. and Virginia Schlobin for care and growth of the Schlobin Collection of Literature of the Fantastic. The collection, donated by professor Schlobin, includes books of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Naval History EndowmentDesigned to support acquisition and preservation of naval history materials for the East Carolina Manuscript Collection, the Navel History Endowment was established in 1996 by The U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941. Coast Guard Auxiliary EndowmentEstablished in 1993 by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary National Board, this endowment is designed to support the maintenance of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Collection in the East Carolina Manuscript Collection. SPA Scholarship FundEstablished in August of 2000, this fund provides scholarships for Joyner Library SPA employees pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any discipline.
