College Deferred
Memory shared by Christina Sorenson Henries, class of 2003 in commemoration of Founders Day 2006. Share your memories with us too.
I started at ECU in August of 1987. I could not wait to get there!! My Freshman year found me in Cotton Hall . . the best dorm on campus (in my opinion). I stayed in that dorm for three and a half years, before I was married and had a child. In the Summer of 1991, I tried to return to ECU to finish my Elementary Education degree, but could not juggle my family and schooling at that time. So, in the Summer of 1991, school was put to the side.
Over the next 10 years or so, my husband and I owned and operated a small business, and raised our daughter.
Throughout this time, the teaching "bug" was very strongly biting me. I wanted so badly to teach. I began to work as a substitute teacher, and in the spring of 1999, I realized I was ready to jump back into school and classes. I contacted my advisor from when I was at ECU in the past, and she remembered me. Mrs. Shappley was a HUGE help to me when I returned to ECU.
My family supported me wholeheartedly, and, with their help, I completed my degree to graduate from ECU in the Spring of
2003.
I have great school pride and LOVE ECU!! GO PIRATES!!
