Rates for Table Board

1910

Board in the dormitories cost $90 per student.
Laundry, text book rental, electricity, heating, medical and hospital fees were an additional $35 per student

Summer 1935

Table Board = $4.00 per week
Two Meals per day = 3.00 per week
Lunch or One Meal per day = 2.50 per week
All Extra Meals or Guest Meals = .50 each

Each week begins on Monday.

Meal tickets can be purchased at the Business office or at the office of the Dean of Women.Tickets or receipts for meals will be taken at the Dining Hall door.


Tuition & Fees

When East Carolina Teachers Training School was chartered in 1907, the tuition was to be

    "free to those who signify their intention to teach for such time and upon such conditions as may be prescribed by the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Trustees, upon the recommendation of the faculty, shall give those students in said school who have completed the required course a certificate of proficiency in the work done." [See ECTTS Charter]

In 1910 tuition was free to those who agreed to teach for two years. Everyone else paid $45 per year in four installments.

The Reservation Fee of $5.00 paid to the Registrar's Office is included in the above charges and will be credited on the Student's College account in the College Treasurer's Office.

Payable to Student Government Treasurer:
In addition to the above charges, there is also a required fee payable to the Student Government Association through the Student Secretary or Treasurer (office in Austin Building.)

All Students to pay $5.00 per quarter for a total of $15.00 per year.

College Fees:
The fee for day students, i.e., those not living in one of the college dormitories, is $25.00 per quarter of twelve weeks.

The fee for dormitory students is $85.00 per quarter. This fee covers instruction, board, room, laundry, rental of text-books, admission to college entertainments, subscription to the college paper, and infirmary service for minor illness.

A reservation fee of $5.00 must accompany the application for admission from all students. This fee is credited to the student's account, provided he enrolls in the quarter for which reservation is made. If he wishes to withdraw his application and notifies the college in writing at least thirty days before the opening of the quarter, the fee will be returned to him.

A fee of $1.00 is charged each student who registers after the day set apart at the beginning of each quarter for registration.

A charge of twenty-five cents is made for each change made at the student's option in his schedule of classes after registration day.

In 1949 "the cost of a well-balanced education at East Carolina Teachers College is well below the national minimum for a comparable college education, as shown in the total costs of such an education here.

The above total costs for a dormitory resident include instruction, estimate for meals in the College cafeteria, room, laundry, admission to College entertainments, subscription to the College newspaper, the College yearbook, and the College magazine, as well as the infirmary services for minor illness. A few additional minor fees may be required, depending upon the courses taken, such as private music lessons."
