East Carolina U. Gets a New Chancellor

After screening some 200 applicants, trustees and the Board of Governors of the State University system have named a new chancellor for East Carolina University at Greenville.He is Dr. Thomas Brewer, an American business history specialist. He is currently serving as vice-chancellor of Texas Christian University, but will take over at East Carolina July 1, succeeding Dr. Leo Jenkins, who is retiring under the mandatory age limit.

Dr. Brewer has been an administrator at TCU at Fort Worth, Texas since 1971.

The new chancellor will be welcomed to ECU and to North Carolina.He will have big shoes to fill in taking up where Dr. Jenkins leaves off.Dr. Jenkins has been at ECU some thirty years, and has led the modern growth and expansion of the university to its present status of greatness. More than any other individual he is responsible for establishment of the new medical school at Greenville, as well as many other phases of growth. He will be honored at commencement with tributes he so well deserves.

Dr. Brewer will make himself known on the campus, in the city and in the State. He comes to a great challenge in one of North Carolina’s finest educational institutions.
