October 26, 1974
Dr. Dean Hayek presented to the Board of Trustees the "plan for the expansion of Medical Education at the School of Medicine of East Carolina University prepared by the faculty October, 1974." Following a lengthy discussion, K. Edward Greene made a motion as follows:
I move that the East Carolina University Board of Trustees go on record as strongly supporting the following:
- That the East Carolina Medical school be placed under the direction and supervision of the East Carolina Division of Health Affairs.
- That the East Carolina Medical School should be designated as an emerging degree granting four-year school.
- And that this be hand delivered to the appropriate individuals: Dr. Friday, Dean Fordham, Mr. Dees, Mr. Hugh Daniels, and Mr. Earl Britt.
Motion seconded by Troy W. Pate, Jr. and carried by a unanimous vote of the Board of Trustees.
The proposal is to be delivered by a Committee appointed by Chairman Robert L. Jones.

School of medicine authorized at East Carolina Univeristy; meeting requirements of accrediting agencies.
The Board of Trustees of East Carolina University is hereby authorized to create a school of medicine at East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina.
The school of medicine shall meet all requirements nad regulations of the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and other such accrediting agencies whose approval is normally required for the establishment and operation of a two-year medical school.
