Partial clipping from Robert Wright's installation, newspaper unidentified.
In December, 1906, the patriotic people of Pitt county heard the voice of an educational prophet proclaiming: "Go through, go thruogh the gates; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people."
It was the voice of one crying in the wilderness, the inspiration of a moment that was ignited by an accumulation of love and wisdom in the heart of the man whose influence among the public schools permeated the whole East, and who awakened the educational interest of this immediate section. From that day forth the noble 35,000 of Pitt's citizenry as one man bent their every energy toward the realization of the grandest dream that ever thrilled the East.
This has been a day of magnificent thoughts, of exaltation, thanksgiving and congratulation. The morning broke with rains but before the exercises commenced the sun dispelled the clouds and the day was as bright as the happy concourse of Carolinians who came from every quarter of the State to welcome the diadem of Eastern Carolina and to receive it to their hearts.
Greenville, the crown of the citiies of the East, was adorned as a bride awaiting the bridegroom: the colors of the new school, old gold and royal purple, hung in pendants and streamers from every building from the depot to the college, half a mile distant, and great welcoming banners were stretched across the streets. Automobiles, carriages, and bicycles, gaily decorated, added to the gala appearance. But there were more substantial evidences of cordial greeting.

Partial clipping regarding Robert Wright's installation, newspaper unknown.
Dr. W.H. Ragsdale, who is a master of such occasions when there are ____ awaiting him, needless to say that all were deeply impressed with what he said.
The address of welcome was delivered by Hon. J.Y. Joyner. Mr. Joyner's speech was inkeeping with the times. He gave the history of the beginning and the completing of the Training School, of those who labored so ardently and enthusiastically until the work was accomplished.
The "Old North State" was then sung by the entire audience which seemed to feel the thrill of patriotism that gladened each heart as it lisped the words of the old song.
Being detained at home on account of illness, our beloved Governor Kitchin was not present, but in his stead Col. J. Bryan Grimes made an address worthy of the occasion. Then came the inaugural address of President Wright. Words here would fail us if we would attempt to tell of the impression it made on those who heard him. Suffice it to say, it was great. Everyone who is a lover of facts, logic and reasoning should read every word of it.
Representatives from the various institutions of the state were present and most of them brought greetings to our new school. Prof. M.C. Noble, from Chapel Hill; President D. H. Hill, A. & M. College, Raleigh; J.I. Foust, Greenboro Normal and Industrial School; Prof. J.B. Car[ter], Wake Forest; President Hob[go]od, of Oxford Female Seminary, [an]d Dr. Goodwin, of Morganton. All [th]ese educational factors brought words of greetings to us, and welcomed the "Eastern Training School" into the bosoms of the educational realm of North Carolina.
This is not our school alone, but North Carolina's school in Greenville. [The] doors are open to all. Will you [come?] -- D.W. Arnold

A Great Day for Greenville
From our correspondent.
Many and happy are the expressions in all parts of Greenville at this hour (4 p.m.) in regards to this eventful day. The inauguration of President R.H. Wright in the Training School Auditorium, was impressive in a great measure. The passenger trains on both A.C.L and N. & S.R.R. landed many visitors yesterday and last night, also this morning, many from the western part of the state and from many of the eastern towns arrived.
The town was decorated to suit such an occasion with great taste. Our citizens spared no pains in making everything attractive and beautiful. At 10:30 a.m. the great doors of the beautiful auditorium were thrown open and within a few minutes it was filled to the utmost capacity. The exercise began with the singing of the "Doxology," followed with prayer by J.H. Shore, pastor of the M.E. church.
In the absence of Mayor H.W. Whidbee, Hon. W.F. Harding, in an appropriate manner delivered the address of welcome for Greenville, Col. F.G. James, for the county of Pitt in his charming manner, welcomed the assembly . . .

President Wright InstalledGreenville, N.C., Nov. 12 -- This city is filled with visitors today, the occasion being the formal inauguration of Robert H. Wright, as president of the East Carolina Training school. Many distinguished North Carolinians are in attendance to witness the exercises.
The addresses of welcome were delivered by Mayor Whidbee and Col. F.G. James, Prof. J.Y. Joyner, state superintendent and Governor Kitchin and President Wright and other speakers made interesting addresses.
Greenville took a holiday today and many of the business houses ware gaily decorated in the school colors royal blue and old gold and banners on the streets bid the visitors welcome. Greenville is proud to have the training school located here and is also proud to know that is already a great credit to the state, while the magnitude of its future usefullness cannot be measured. The visitors in the city were most cordially welcomed and they were most favorably impressed not only with the training school, but with Greenville and its people.

Trophy 2 - The Athletic League raised the money to purchase this trophy by holding a Penny Carnival in 1915. The carnival cost $.03 and a "sentiment" to enter. The girls were to write a sentiment "cute or otherwise" on a card. Shows costing a penny included the Wild Woman, Ninth Wonder of the World, Southern Camp Meeting and the William Green Hill Theater. Booths were set up for other past times such as the Fortune Teller and the Good Advice Stand. Red lemonade and candy were among the refreshments. The net proceeds were $18.
