Chartered in 1907, East Carolina University is presently serving a student enrollment that exceeds 10,000 which makes it the third largest institution of higher learning in North Carolina. The main campus of the co-educational school is located on more than 300 gently rolling, wooded acres in lovely and historic Greenville, a city on the banks of the Tar River in the heartland of Eastern North Carolina. The University's physical plant, valued at more than $70 million, has tripled in size during the past 15 years and includes modern 10-story high rise dormitories, a new $1.6 million music building, a complete science center, and an athletic and physical education complex including a gymnasium, coliseum, Century Club building, field house, athletic fields, and Ficklen Stadium, home of the East Carolina Pirates. East Carolina University is truly a center of educational, scientific, and cultural activities serving not only the region in which it is located but the entire state and Southeast.
