Schedule a Library Instruction Session

Program Overview:

ECU faculty members may request course-related library research instruction for undergraduate and graduate classes. Instruction sessions are taught by librarians, who tailor the content to the specific class assignment and the students' research needs. Sessions are generally taught by librarians in the reference department. Here is a list of specialized instruction contacts for classes taught outside of the reference department. Instruction sessions can cover:

  • Subscription Databases
  • Using the Library Catalog
  • Evaluating Internet Sites
  • Tips on formulating effective search strategies and evaluating sources
Joyner Library also provides a recommended library instruction curriculum for COAD 1000, ENGL 1100, and ENGL 1200.

Information for Faculty:

Faculty are strongly encouraged to attend the library instruction sessions. When the classroom faculty members attend and participate, the students place higher value on the library instruction.

Most instruction sessions are held in Joyner Library Room 1020 or Room 1021. These classrooms provide students with the opportunity for hands-on learning. However, arrangements can be made for a librarian to visit your classroom or lab.

Questions? Please contact Amy Gustavson, Coordinator of Instructional Services, at gustavsona@ecu.edu or by telephone 328-0295.
